Eastport’s Selebi East project comprises five licences that cover a total area of 1,232 km2. Approximately seven kilometres east of the permit lies the neighbouring mining licence hosting the Selebi Mines, which historically produced 40,000 tonnes of nickel-copper annually. A total of 27 million tonnes at 0.6% nickel and 1.0% copper, and 14 million tonnes at 0.7% nickel and 0.7% copper, were mined from two shafts between 1980 and 2016. Following its closure in 2016, the Selebi Mines deposit is now owned by TSX-listed NexMetals Mining Corp (TSX-V-: NEXM) (formerly Premium Resources Ltd).
In August 2024, NexMetals Mining announced its initial Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for the Selebi Mines, totalling 27.7 million tonnes of mineralised material. This estimate includes an Inferred Mineral Resource at the Selebi Main Deposit, comprising 18.89 million tonnes at 3.51% copper equivalent (CuEq) or 1.7% nickel equivalent (NiEq). In addition, the Selebi North Deposit holds an Indicated Mineral Resource of 3 million tonnes at 2.92% CuEq or 1.42% NiEq.
Since acquiring its Selebi East licences, Eastport has reprocessed historic airborne radiometrics and magnetics using modern methodologies. This work suggests that the amphibolite unit, the host rock of the Selebi and Phikwe deposits, extends eastward into Eastport’s licences through complex folding and faulting. This notion is supported by the nickel-copper-cobalt anomalies returned from extensive soil sampling undertaken by Eastport.
Eastport continues its soil sampling program while planning a ground electromagnetic survey to identify prospective drill targets. The Company intends to commence diamond drilling for target confirmation based on the mapped lithologies and soil anomalies.
